Basically the Best: The Strypes

I've noticed that I have not had a band to follow lately. A lot of my favorite music is old and therefore the artists have created all of the music they are ever going to create. That takes some of the fun out of following the band, wanting to cry over the fact that they aren't touring to Hawaii, and anxiously awaiting their new albums.
But my desperate prayers for a new band to fall in love with have been answered! Behold:
Swoon...
This Irish rock group is driving me mad. It's Ross Farrelly with lead vocals, Josh McClorey on guitar, Peter O'Hanlon on bass, and Evan Walsh on drums (how much more Irish can their names get?) The Strypes are The Ramones, Dr. Feelgood, and magical guitar riffs all mixed together. Their 60's pub-rock/blues sound is enough to make anyone cry tears of relief that some people are still making this music.
And honestly, they are just adorable. All between the ages of 16 and 17, I can't come up with any reason not to love all of them.

How can you not listen to this album "Snapshot" on repeat?
Since their amazing sound just isn't enough, their videos are also super well produced because they are already signed with Mercury Records after being spotted by Sir Elton John himself.

The Strypes are my new heartthrobs without a doubt, and seeing as they're taking off so quickly with only one full album out, I'm expecting a lot from these R&B boys.

Try not to obsess over these talented cuties too hard now.

Champagne and Glitter

Winterball in January!

Wow so let's forget how long it's been since I did a blog post, shall we?

The theme of this year's winterball was Let it Snow! I searched and searched (last minute of course) for a white or light blue dress, because I love following theme, but was left empty handed. Then, out of the corner of my eye, I spotted a mannequin in a pretty, pink champagne, silk dress and I had to get it. I mean it has princess sleeves!

Dress: June & Hudson, Savvy
Shoes: Charles David
Necklace: Aldo

I am never this "girly" with my outfits. Usually something black with cat-eye liner is my go to, but I wanted to switch it up. Plus, the black velvet dress I had as backup really didn't mesh well with "Let it Snow."
This little number won me Best Dressed so I'm gonna say it was an overall success!

Until we meet again, lovelies...

Last Days of Summer

School starts tomorrow D:

This summer has been amazing and new and fun and exciting and I've had no time to blog (like I said I would). So here is my last outfit post with pink hair...that makes me so sad you don't even know.
Soon enough, I'll be back to uniforms and homework.
Don't get me wrong, I love school. It's just so time consuming when I could be doing things like spending all my money on food, sewing, making crafts, and re-watching Lord of the Rings.

So I got the two most radical presents I could ever receive this summer.
A Canon Rebel T3
and
a pair of Doc Martens
I feel so professional with my photos and so badass with my boots.

Dress: Topshop
Shoes: Doc Martens
Lips: OCC Lip Tar "Hoochie"

I got this little dress on major sale and have been wearing it all the time. It's got these layers of fabric on the front that I love. The beauty is always in the details.

So this is goodbye to cotton candy hair! Goodbye to summer!
Here's to junior year. May it contain the least amount of hellish stress as possible.

Love,
Bella

Style Icon: Retro Space Babes

Recently, instead of posting on this blog (yeah I'm bad at this) I've been watching weird movies on Netflix/Hulu in my room. But this has not been for naught, for I have had the privilege of watching Barbarella; a 60's space movie starring Jane Fonda. My eyes have been opened to the ridiculous world of retro space babes, and I will never be the same...
The movie has a very loose plot that I was struggling to follow almost the entire time (and if you watch it you'll also understand how uncomfortable the movie made me) but what I did understand was that Barbarella (the "Queen of the Galaxy") had fantastic wardrobe changes every 30 minutes. I mean really, see for yourself.
I mean, really.

It has a full length tail.

So impractical for space travel, yet so perfect.
This one gets torn up within 2 minutes of screen time.

The use of plastic and basically every shiny material known to man in these costumes is superb
*round of applause* I need the costume designer to come and work for me so I can just be Jane Fonda always.

Another inspirational group of retro space babes are the pirates from outer space in the online comic I Was Kidnapped by Lesbian Pirates from Outer Space!!! The title is pretty self-explanatory: five lesbian space pirates kidnap a human and have wild adventures, what fun!!! The uniforms on these girls are wonderful and their hair is even better.

How could you NOT want to be them?

Technicolor hair? Knee-high boots? RAY GUNS? That sounds like perfection to me...
Also, the comic is beautifully drawn and you should all go read it here.

So because it is not (yet) socially acceptable to dress like this in daily life, I guess I can settle with spending all of my time and effort into making a Halloween costume that replicates one of these costumes perfectly. Now excuse me while I take at least 2 months to make this grueling decision.

If you know of any more old space movies/TV shows/comic/books that showcase beautiful space fashion, lemme know so I can swoon over it.

Love, Bella

Outfit of the Day: Back to Black

Fact: Black velvet is the best fabric to exist.

I made myself presentable a couple of days ago because I thought I was going to the mall with my friend, so pictures were taken. We ended up just watching Doctor Who at her house and eating Kraft mac n' cheese, because we all know that was the better decision for two broke girls to make.

Black is actually my favorite color for two reasons; 1) because it looks good on everyone all the time forever and 2) because it goes with every other color. And the best kind of fabric to be black is velvet, which my skirt is made of but you can't tell because of
~*~*~crappy camera quality~*~*~
So yes here is this outfit.

Shirt: American Apparel
Skirt: Forever 21
Shoes: Steve Madden
Pin: DIY (post to come)

I've been making a lot of those pins, and next post I'll show off all of them!
Let's all hope that one day I get a camera that can show you the texture of my clothing because I know you all care so much.

Outfit of the Day: Hello Again!

I'm Back!

Hello all! I have returned from my school-induced online coma, and OH MY GOODNESS IT'S SUMMER!!! As you can see, my hair is now pink as per protocol. When I don't have school admins telling me not to dye my hair, I go all out.
This is just a simple OOTD post. My sisters and I went thrifting (more on that later) so this outfit was put together to make it easy for me to dig through musty clothing for a couple of hours. It was a successful day.

Dress: Volcom
Bag: Forever 21
Shoes: Converse
Sunnies: Kate Spade

Now that it's summer, I will most definitely be posting more. Get ready bros...

Love, Bella

Secret Jamz: A Playlist

*Long and dramatic sigh*
Sometimes school gets overwhelmingly bleh for me, and that is when I decide that I'm going to sit in my room for hours attempting (of course I am!) to do homework while listening to music way too loudly to think.
It just so happens that when I am just done with life and school and want to just wallow in angst, I listen to songs that I wish I didn't know all the words to (save a few on this playlist). Many are ones that friends played that I said, "Oh yeah this is alright" to and then haphazardly Googled the 10 or so lyrics in the song so I could just listen to it on replay until my brain melted.
So yeah, sometimes people just need to listen to brain numbing dance music that you can't help but jam to at midnight when you should either be sleeping or writing that paper (don't remind me)...
Here are 10 songs you shouldn't really tell people you're listening to, but you should rock out to anyway. I won't judge you for liking the playlist if you don't judge me for making it.
